About this Project
Project Overview
Rugpull is a 45-second motion-comic teaser that satirizes the hype-driven world of crypto, where scams aren’t hidden — they’re celebrated. Working with LA-based creator Bryce M., Maveristic transformed static noir panels into a cinematic vertical trailer that blends fintech paranoia with human drama.
The teaser introduces Zane (a disillusioned developer) and Mako (a feral-eyed hustler) as they debate morality versus profit in the glow of trading screens, Discord chats, and collapsing coin charts.
Scope of Work
Character identity design for Zane & Mako
AI-assisted panel art + in-house refinements (8 key frames)
Cinematic motion design (glitch FX, crowd montage, parallax)
Panel-by-panel VO scripting + delivery polish
Ambient score + glitch-driven SFX bed
Caption & title animation (9:16 master format)
Final mastering & QC for streaming/social platforms
Process & Approach
Discovery & Script Pass – Broke down Bryce’s draft into 8 panels with VO beats and emotional pacing.
Character & Panel Design – Generated visuals in Midjourney / Runway; refined with consistency checks to lock Zane and Mako’s look.
Motion Pass – Animated in Runway AI (Gen-2 / Aleph) with brush-based tweaks: flickering monitors, subtle gestures, chart collapses.
VO Production – Approved narration integrated panel by panel; delivery emphasized key phrases (“Get paid or get played”).
Sound Design – Layered digital glitches, Discord pings, alarm stingers, and a low synth bed for tension.
Vertical-first Delivery – Optimized final output in 9:16 format; synced VO + SFX for a cinematic feel.
Client Reviews – Two feedback loops; final sign-off delivered via Drive.
Storytelling
Over the course of two weeks, Rugpull evolved from a dialogue-driven script to a polished teaser. The first days locked Zane and Mako’s visual identity, ensuring consistency across panels. Midway, we built the motion passes — flickers, parallax shifts, and montage cuts to show hype and collapse. With VO approved, the pacing was refined: Zane’s hesitations versus Mako’s sharp one-liners became the pulse of the teaser.
By the final stretch, audio and captions were aligned to amplify tension: pings, glitches, and crowd noise rising as charts flipped from green to red. The closing line — “RUGPULL: The truth is unchainable” — landed over a cracked-screen title card, sealing the noir satire tone. Bryce approved the final render with enthusiasm, noting it captured both the bite and humanity he envisioned.
